The Bajaj Pulsar is the first bike in India which came in direct competition with the Hero Honda CBZ. Later Bajaj introduced Pulsar 150cc DTS-i with digital twin spark ignition and till today Pulsar is one of the most sought after bike in the 150cc segment. It has definitely won over other bikes, but let us justify its triumph.
Styling
The complete looks of this beast is eye turning looks. The engineers at Bajaj realized the fact that if there is no beauty and only brawn, it is not going to sell in the Indian market. Claimed to be designed and developed in Japan, this bike does have a head turning looks. The most noticeable feature of this bike is the tank. Big tanks give a big bike feel, and when Pulsar was introduced, it had one of the biggest tanks in India
.
The design of the headlamps has been viewed differently by people. The wolf eyed head lamp,, Some really love it and some say it could have been designed better. The headlight comes with city lights also called pilot lamps which is a value addition to its looks. Bullet and Karizma were the only bikes with city lights before Pulsar was introduced. The tail part of the bike… hmm, yeah, I could say it is nicely designed too. Here too there is a difference of opinion. The new razor sharp rear light, whether looking good or nor not, definitely adds to the uniqueness of Bajaj Pulsar. There are present 2 LED tail lamps which required very less maintenance as compared to the bulb operated tail lamps.
The presence of 2 tank flaps adds more glory to the bike. However in the previous versions there was absence of these tank flaps. But in UG 4 version these looks very eye catching. But there is sad news to the previous Bajaj Pulsar owners, that they can't fix these tank flaps to their bike without drilling into their tanks nd it will completly cost around Rs.1500.
Now talking about the clip on handle bars. The 1 of the difference between P150 and P180 is that of handle also.Although both bikes have clip on handle bar but the central screw of P180 is mounted on the base of the handle plate and that of P150 is quite digged inside that plate.
The horns of this bike are quite sharp and quite soundy too.Bajaj gives double horns as standard ones.
Performance
Bajaj says “DTS-i gives high power without compromising on mileage.” and the bike lives upto this statement. Another great advantage of the Digital Twin Spark ignition is the throttle responsiveness. Definitely the throttle response is better than the CBZ. It does give a good adrenaline rush when you twist the throttle. However the previous models of pulsar were quite laggy, but with the introduction of new engine of 149.01cc engine the throttle response also become quite effective nd it gives 15.06Ps power@9000rpm.
This bike reaches 0-60kmph in almost 6secs.Quite quicky bike it is..
However i assumed TVS Apache RTR is also fast bike upto 90kmph,,but after that it starts vibrating and the rider feels some kind of insecurity.
Handling
The Handling of Bajaj Pulsar is quite heavy.According to me this bike is not considered as a city bike.As while turning the bike the handle feels quite heavy and it sometimes becomes a problem for a rider to take a sudden turn. But after using it for some period of time, the rider gets habtual of it and he feels some sort of enjoyment in taking turns by bending the bike.
Braking
Remote Locking(optional)
This feature of Remote Locking is very attractive feature. However in case of safety,it also helps a lot but when u just make some sort of sounds lyke that comes when you lock or unlock the doors of your car,it looks kind of a showoff. ;-)
I have installed Blackcat Security module on the first day i purchased my bike.It costs around Rs.1650 to me from the Bajaj Showroom itself and is having a warranty of 1.5years.
It sounds good when you lock your bike like a car and whosoever tries to chedchaad with it,,the siren will blow up and thatperson will get confused. It also have a feature of remote starting.By remote starting you can start the engine of your bike with the remote itself.I only find thin thing helpful when there is any naaka present ahead and u just put the remote in your pocket and if the policeman takes your bike keys then just start your bike with remote and just escape like a dust. ;-)
Every bike has some draw backs also.So this is also having some of them.
Drawbacks
- This bike requires a lot of maintenance. Its not the Hero Honda engine which runs smoothly even after 6months of service. The chain starts giving a lot of noises after 2-3 months.
- This bike is also having some kind of Gearbox problem.Sometimes it feels that the gears started making cranking sounds.
My opinion about this bike is that===""This bike is AWESMEEEEE""
I purchased this bike on 25th May,2011.Now my bike is having some unique features which i think others may not have like
- MRF Zapper Tyres.
- Completly black grab trails.
- rubber tank pad.
- remote locking.
Since that day i had covered my 500kms and yesterday the reserve was on.
Initially before the first service the mileage is quite low.
But after the first service its mileage will be around 50kmpl.
kardo koi toh comment....... ;-)
